Kingsman: The Secret Service

It’s been a while. Not too many movies have come out that I’ve been willing to subject myself to in the early part of this year. That all changed a couple of weeks ago when I went on a trip and found time to see Kingsman: The Secret Service.  I’d give anything for more movies to be half as entertaining as this. It’s so much more than a (hard R rated)love letter to James Bond. It’s just kind of a miracle of a movie. You don’t expect it to be as good as it is. You don’t expect Colin Firth to completely own the action he does. You don’t expect to like it. But, I did. A lot. I love this kind of newish trend we get from Hollywood that now we usually get one really satisfying and entertaining film in the first quarter of the year. Would it be nice to have more? Sure, but I’ll take what I can get when the only other stuff out there is 50 Shades Of Gray or yet another Taken movie. Of course, that does leave me wondering if I could appreciate and like Kingsman as much had it any better competition. I think know I would. It has everything you would want out of a spy movie. Intrigue? Check. Subversion? Check. Surprising action? Double…no, Triple Check. If you’re looking for a good time at the movies, Kingsman certainly delivers.
